Taxes
I support tax reform of our current tax system. With the help of a new Governor and Legislature by working together to resolve this very vital issue we will establish a fair and equitable tax structure that is beneficial for all our home owners, farmers, and small business owners.
Economy
With the help from tax reform and the repeal of burdensome regulations on our small businesses we can create a robust economy that will make Nebraska more competitive and will encourage economic growth and development, resulting in creating good paying jobs for Nebraskans.
Education
Our children are Nebraska’s future. I will strive to continue to improve the quality of the educational opportunities for our children at all levels. From the early years through the college years we must invest in our children’s education.
Medicaid Expansion
The Federal Government guarantees to provide 90% of the funding for the first two years of this new program. There is no guarantee beyond 2015 that these funds will continue to be matched. I will oppose efforts to expand Medicaid, it will cost the state millions of dollars initially and has the potential of creating additional mandated spending that we cannot afford. I would like to bring my experience and background as a Doctor to the Legislature to address this very important issue, assuring that all Nebraskans have quality and affordable health care.
Mental Health
Nebraska ranks as one of the lowest states in providing mental health care, yet one in four Nebraskans are affected by mental health challenges. We need to be open to new ways of improving access to mental health services and to developing a better plan of coordinating mental health services across Nebraska. We need to be encouraging individuals and families to seek the mental health care that they need.
